Melbourne radio ratings: Nova takes over drive, 3AW continues overall winning streak

Melbourne’s radio market has seen Nine Radio’s 3AW keep the overall share crown, according to the fourth GfK Radio 360 survey for 2023, despite a drop in listenership.

Falling from 15.3% overall share in survey three to 14.6%, the largest market drop in overall share, the station has still maintained its lead while GoldFM remains in second place, at 10.8% overall share, compared to last survey’s 11.1%.

3AW maintains its overall share, Russel and Ross lead breakfast

SmoothFM had a 0.1 point loss, now sitting at 9.6% overall share – but remains third. Nova 100 now sits at fourth after a 1.2 percentage point increase to 8.5% – the largest increase in the market.

ABC Melbourne had a 0.9 percentage point increase to 6.9% and KIISFM rose 0.2 percentage points to 7.5% overall share. Triple M continues to trail at 5.7%.

In breakfast, 3AW’s Russel and Ross again dominated the market, maintaining a lead at 19.2% share.

Nine Radio’s head of content, Greg Byrnes, said: “This is a stunning result for Nine Radio…Clear number one in Sydney and Melbourne, and even more Australians turning to our live and local content.

“The breakfast, morning and football teams in Sydney and Melbourne in particular have recorded extraordinary results,” he said.

The competition for second has intensified between GoldFM and FoxFM, which sit at 9.8% and 9.6%, respectively. GoldFM’s Christian O’Connell Show had a 1 percentage point drop, while FoxFM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick rose by 0.1 percentage point.

“On FM alone, we added another 64,000 listeners becoming the only metro network reaching over 6 million people,” he said.

FoxFM’s Carrie and Tommy increased by 0.4 percentage points, now at 10.4% share.
