Micah Walker joins 72andSunny Sydney as executive creative director

Micah Walker is set to return to Australia as executive creative director of Sydney’s 72andSunny after a stint as creative director at Wieden + Kennedy Portland.

Walker was once regarded as one of Australia’s most highly prized creative talents, and was heavily awarded for his work on Lion Nathan beer brands – including Hahn Super Dry – and Coca-Cola’s burn.

Walker: Returning to Australia

Walker was ECD of Publicis Mojo, before departing in 2011 and reappearing at The Monkeys. He left The Monkeys in 2013 to move back to the United States.

During his time at The Monkeys, he worked on the Ice Break drag race campaign and the Boost Stay Living campaign.

Over in the US, he was working on clients including Samsung, Dodge Chrysler and Booking.com.

Johnny Tan, executive creative director of 72andSunny APAC said of the appointment: “In a business that’s all about people, we could not be more excited about having an extraordinary talent and leader like Micah to be part of our team. His experience in Australia and the US, as well as his unique care for the work will help inspire truly disruptive work in this office.”

Chris Kay, managing director and partner of 72and Sunny, said Walker was the only person who fit the bill for the role.

“We have a brief to find someone, who with the rest of the gang, could help us deliver on our creative ambition in Sydney. We wanted someone who had the perfect mix of local knowledge and a truly global track record, as well as having a wry wit, a good dose of mischief, and an ability to chew tobacco like nobody else,” he said.

Walker said it was time to come back to Australia.

“Almost five years ago, my family and I left for an adventure in Portland,” he said. “As much as I loved W+K and the people there, not a day went by that we didn’t miss Australia. We’re stoked to be back home, close to family and good mates. And I’m genuinely excited to join 72andSunny and help the rest of the team here build something different and special.”

The agency in Sydney works with clients including Google, Ebay, Dropbox and Optus.
