Mindshare chief strategy officer jumps across to This Is Flow

This Is Flow has hired Mindshare’s Catherine Rushton as the independent media agency’s agency’s first chief strategy officer.

Rushton leaves the GroupM brand after more than 11 years, over 2 separate stints. She found her feet at the agency, interning in 2009 before gradually working her way up to strategy director in 2013. In 2014 Rushton departed the agency for a short stint working client-side at Unilever, before returning to Mindshare in 2016, where she was elevated to chief strategy officer in 2022.

Rushton’s departure from the GroupM agency comes just four months after the announcement of her promotion, with Elliot Elridge having stepped up into her then vacated role as head of strategy.

In her role at This Is Flow, Rushton will provide strategic leadership for the agency’s client portfolio and assist in mentoring young strategists. Her appointment reflects and aggressive scale-up strategy at the agency, with This Is Flow having hit 30 staff by the end of 2022, following a number of new business wins.

Jimmy Hyett, founder and CEO of This is Flow added, “Catherine is an exceptional talent, with a brilliant mind that’s highly regarded throughout the industry. She brings the perfect combination of passion, experience, attitude and a different perspective into the agency that will not only elevate the work we are doing, but also elevate the whole agency as part of our leadership team.”

Of Rushton’s departure, Mindshare ANZ CEO Maria Grivas said: “Catherine has been a huge part of Mindshare for more than a decade helping shape our strategic craft and develop our Good Growth proposition in Australia. I’d like to thank her on behalf of everyone at Mindshare for her contribution over the years, and wish her well in her wonderful new role. We will be sharing news of our new chief strategy officer shortly.”

This Is Flow’s client list includes John Deere, Carnival Australia, The Workwear Group’s Hard Yakka and KingGee, Riverina Dairy, Liquefy Health, amongst others.
