MTV program line-up dominated by foreign imports
MTV has unveiled a summer programming line-up dominated by shows imported from overseas.
The line-up for the main MTV channel for December and January sees Teen Mom 3, Death Valley, When I was 17 (season 3), Flash Prank, Chelsea Settles and 199 Lives: The Travis Pastrana Story – all US-made shows – debut in Australia.
MTV’s only locally-produced content to air over the next two months is Local Produce, a platform to support home-grown talent.
The announcement follows a major restructure earlier this month that saw 13 people made redundant as MTV scaled back local production and merged its Australia and New Zealand websites into one. MTV closed its New Zealand operation last year.
To a question on how MTV’s program line-up had been affected by the restructure, Rebecca Batties, GM, music brands and comedy, told Mumbrella: “Come 2012, we’ll fully see the benefits of our new structure where the content pipeline will move faster with our hit titles.”
‘Content pipeline’?
I suppose at least she’s being honest with the fact that they are now just flushing a load of crap straight from the US to our screens without any local input.

Ms Batties’ comment is utter corporate-speak rubbish. Why can’t company spokespeople and politicans simply say it like it really is?
We all know MTV OZ has wasted money here for years based on share of subscriptions and population – why spend so much money on the MTV Australia Music Awards. for example, when they could produce several local series showcasing local acts for the money outlaid on just one MTVAMAs.
All this imported material is junk and in this market contributes to MTV’s irrelevance. Can anyone name an Australian MTV presenter?
I’m wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a “going forward” in her statement somewhere.

For what it’s worth, Death Valley is awesome. I have no idea how it ended up on MTV though.
