Mumbrella editorial team expands with two additions

Following the appointment of Neil Griffiths to the role of editor this week, Mumbrella has expanded its editorial team with two additions.

Kalila Welch returns to the company, having first joined in November 2021 as an editorial assistant, before eventually heading up the creative and PR agency beat. Welch departed in May 2023 to complete a Masters of Journalism and Communication at UNSW. In addition to her study, Welch holds a Bachelor of Communications, majoring in Advertising, and has several years of experience in small business marketing.

“It’s great to be back with team Mumbrella after a short time away,” Welch said.

“After a busy first week back at SXSW, I can’t wait to see what this industry has in store next.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Leong has joined Mumbrella as its new editorial assistant. Prior to joining the company Leong worked as a content writer for an MSP marketing agency and completed internships at Happy Media and LivewireAU.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Mumbrella team and being given the opportunity to work with the company’s media, advertising and journalism experts,” Leong said.

“I can’t wait to see what events we throw, what stories we uncover and how my role as editorial assistant will evolve.”

Editorial consultant Adam Lang added: “The expansion of the editorial team reflects our commitment to our long-term strategy. Kalila is a proven asset to both the company and the wider industry and her return is most welcomed, while Matthew has already proven himself to be an enthusiastic and committed member.

“Alongside the competitive and vigorous pace of our industry, cost-of-living pressure and technology opportunities give brands, marketers, media buyers, and communicators a daily need for the best coverage. Under the editorial direction of Neil Griffiths, the Mumbrella team is excited to do that and engage our audience with the knowledge needed to operate at their best. Australian media and marketing should be leading the world and Mumbrella wants to help.”

Alongside Griffiths, Welch and Leong round out the editorial team that also includes deputy editor, Nathan Jolly, and journalist, Lauren McNamara.

Both Welch and Leong will work out of Mumbrella’s North Sydney office and can be reached at kwelch@mumbrella.com.au and mleong@mumbrella.com.au respectively.
