Top stories:

5:30pm – What’s on the gogglebox tonight? Well, on Seven there’s the grand final of My Kitchen Rules at 7:30pm, Nine is US sitcom-tastic with two episodes of The Big Bang Theory, Mom and 2 Broke Girls, and Ten has Jimmy & Jamie’s Food Fight Club and NCIS. For those ona  more serious bent ABC1 has Foreign Correspondent while SBS1 has Insights and Dateline.

4:37pm – Endemol Australia, the producer of new political drama Party Tricks for Channel Ten, are looking for a bunch of extras and if you’re currently studying journalism or media at university you might be in luck. According to this post on RMIT University’s website “they are particularly eyeing journalism/media students who can convincingly work the camera and microphone to play ‘media scrum’ over several days of filming’.

If being an extra on TV hasn’t already made you want to apply, it’s a paid gig.

4:13pm – Here’s an interesting campaign from Autism Speaks for ‘Autism Awareness Month’ in the US. It aimed to show how early diagnosis can make a difference for kids with autism. The campaign is actually a series of four ads for different brands featuring the same family. The first spot, for Autism Speaks shows a family visit a paediatrician where a child is diagnosed with autism. Other commercials follow, for Band-Aid, Campbell’s Soup and telco AT&T, which capture the child growing up and leading a normal and healthy life.

3:46pm – As always the FYI section is full of extra news; today it includes stories on the following; Crosby|Texter appointing journalist Christine JackmanGlyn Williams appointed general manager retail at Sydney AirportLeo Burnett appointing two new group business directors; and, Entries are now open for Shorts Film Festival.

3:32pm – Fans of My Kitchen Rules are threating to boycott the grand final of the show tonight, with recently ousted twin Helen Moursellas telling News.com.au Channel Seven are chasing ratings.

“The show has rated so well this year that it all makes sense why they (Chloe and Kelly) made it so far,” she said.

“I didn’t think they would get this far. When we first started we said ‘they need to go, they need to get out’. We all thought Paul and Blair were going to be in the grand final.”

A Boycott MKR Grand Final 2014 Facebook page currently has 3,185 likes.

2:33pm – Cricket Australia has shortlisted four agencies for its creative account, but incumbent GPY&R Melbourne has declined to take part in the process ending the four year relationship.

2.05pm – Our story on media buyer reactions to News Corp Australia adding the fantasy football league Supercoach in its digital subscriptions has just been updated to include new comments from the publisher. Story here. 

1.45pm – Cricket Australia is to get a new creative agency as GPY&R Melbourne declines pitch for the account. Full story here.

1.30pm – Wendy Harmer’s The Hoopla has launched a new brand ad ending with the tagline Fuck.Right.Off. which CEO Jane Waterhouse says is about them “putting our stake in the ground” that the brand is “for the smarter woman” . The ad is likely to cause a bit of a debate tell us what you think here. 

1:03pm – There’s a bit of new creative around today, including the new one from Red Bull featuring a lot of extreme sports, a Westpac ad spruiking their graduate training program, and a plucky effort from Sydney’s 4 Pines Brewing Company, playing on some hue stereotypes between Australia and Germany to show how the “plucky” brewers stuck it to the Germans.

12:43pm – Things are heating up in the world of online streaming, with Quickflix launching a streaming service priced at half the cost of rival Foxtel’s movie service Presto.

12:23pm – Outdoor company Adshel has hired industry veteran Mike Tyquin for the newly created role of chief commercial officer. Details here.

11:47am – Here’s a poser – why would airline seats be left in the middle of a kangaroo enclosure. And who is hijacking the flying kangaroo?

11:19am – We must be getting close to the FIFA World Cup – the new ads are starting to pile up thick and fast. Here’s Nike’s latest effort, it’s not Brazilians plaing football in an airport, but it’s fairl entertaining, if not a little lengthy anyway. Enjoy.

10:32am – TV ratings are in, and no surprises it’s another dominant night for My Kitchen Rules and Seven, as it winds up to the final showdown tonight. However, not everyone is happy to of the contestants, Chloe & Kelly, got through, and some people have claimed a promo for the final which was shown during the show gave away who won last night.

9:50am – Ever wondered what some celebs would loo lie with Kim Jong-un’s natty hairdo, rumoured to be one which all North Korean men must have? Well wonder no more, for a competition on DesignCrowd to implant it on celebrities has yielded some interesting, and maybe not totally unexpected, results. We’ll be dropping a cpuple in here throughout the day, starting with King Joffrey Jong-un.

9:07am – Here’s one of the more bizarre campaigns making a comeback in the US, with Burger King bringing back the Subservient Chicken. It’s a digital campaign at the moment, but the video below explains what the campaign was all about.

8:30am – Last night was Media Watch night, and Dr Mumbo got a name check from the ABC show after breaking the news of the problems with the ANZAC edition of the Australian Financial Review. Catch the episode, which also questions the amount of royal visit coverage, here.

8:23am – And in other news it seems while this week is a festival of My Kitchen Rules as that juggernaut comes to an end again, Sunday will see the start of The Voice on Nine, while Monday is the return of MasterChef on Ten, one of the franchises they;ll be hoping will help build an audience for the rest of the year.

8:10am – Morning all, it’s already feeling like a long week isn’t it. We’ll start today with the most boring ad ever made. It’s for the Leica T camera, and spends 45 minutes watching someone polishing a piece of metal. Seriously.
