Mumbrella360 recap: Why ad agencies are leaders not followers when it comes to diversity

m360In the first instalment of a series to run in the coming days, we recap the highlights from the Mumbrella Question Time session at Mumbrella360 last month.

Tim Burrowes was joined by Nick Baker, executive general manager of marketing for Tourism Australia, Stuart Gregor, founder of Liquid Ideas and chairman of the PR Council, John Mescall, executive creative director of McCann Worldgroup ANZ and Henry Tajer, executive chairman of Mediabrands and chairman of the Media Federation.

The panel discussed:

  • What policies should be in place for local advertising to reflect the multiculturalism of the country. “We don’t lead, we reflect” – John Mescall. “Our default should be leadership” – Henry Tajer.
  • Why they don’t use the platform they are given to push their own agenda: “Early in the piece your work usually stinks because its too much of you” – John Mescall.
