Mumbrella360 recap: Why ad agencies are leaders not followers when it comes to diversity
In the first instalment of a series to run in the coming days, we recap the highlights from the Mumbrella Question Time session at Mumbrella360 last month.
Tim Burrowes was joined by Nick Baker, executive general manager of marketing for Tourism Australia, Stuart Gregor, founder of Liquid Ideas and chairman of the PR Council, John Mescall, executive creative director of McCann Worldgroup ANZ and Henry Tajer, executive chairman of Mediabrands and chairman of the Media Federation.
The panel discussed:
- What policies should be in place for local advertising to reflect the multiculturalism of the country. “We don’t lead, we reflect” – John Mescall. “Our default should be leadership” – Henry Tajer.
- Why they don’t use the platform they are given to push their own agenda: “Early in the piece your work usually stinks because its too much of you” – John Mescall.

I love it when a panel of white men tell me how they’re leaders on diversity represention. Just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Hi Toro,
m360 was in June. We’ve video footage of most sessions and will gradually roll it out as quickly as we can edit it, but given that there were 60 or so sessions, this will take some time. If you’re not interested in the topics covered, then there’s no need to watch – I promise not to make you
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
I see not everything moves fast in the world of online blogs then.
And that’s a great approach to reading/watching stuff online. Maybe you should acquaint dr mumbo with it?
