Mumbrellacast: A big promotion at WPP, live sports value and Zenith’s Nickie Scriven

In the first Mumbrellacast of 2022, Andrew Banks and Emma Shepherd join Calum Jaspan to break down the media and marketing industry. The episode also features interviews with Zenith Media's Nickie Scriven and Nielsen's Steve Whatley.

WPP announced its new country lead in Australia and New Zealand on Monday morning, with Rose Herceg appointed president. The replacement for Jens Monsees, who departed the role last May, has been long-awaited, with Herceg widely rumoured to have been in the driving seat for the role since late 2021. The Mumbrella team discusses the possible implications of the appointment, the differences between the CEO role and the now-president role, and whether it signals a change for WPP moving forward.

The team then looks at the value of sports broadcasting following a heavy summer of sport, featuring The Ashes and the Australian Open across Seven and Nine, as well as the A-Leagues on TenViacomCBS. This segment also features a short interview with Nielsen director of sports sales, Steve Whately, who shares the brands getting the best exposure value within live sports broadcasting.

Lastly, an interview with Zenith Media Australia CEO, Nickie Scriven. During the conversation, Scriven speaks about Zenith positioning itself within the Publicis one-stop-shop model, winning clients and the changing nature of pitching, and fixing the talent crisis through the new Zen Academy program.
