Myer’s pensive elf returns in Christmas teaser

Myer is setting the stage for the return of its popular pensive elf and nonchalant reindeer after the pair made their debut as the stars of the retailer’s Christmas campaign last year.

With major rival David Jones and mall giant Westfield having launched their Christmas campaigns during the week, Myer has launched a social media teaser with with the Elf and Reindeer sitting in a dark box of Christmas decorations.

“I hope I get picked,” the ever-anxious elf says as the reindeer tries to buck him up.

“I’m not feeling very sparkly this year.”

The Christmas Angel – revealed last year as a harried mother of four – then joins in warning everyone to be quiet as the lid of the box opens.

At the end of the teaser it’s revealed they all make it to the tree and the ad closes with the pointer to November 13 when Myer will reveal the full campaign.

Myer invested heavily in the elaborate stop-motion campaign last year by creators of Wallace and Gromit, Aardman.

Production of the 2015 campaign which ran under the banner of  “Finding Christmas” took more than four months and was marked by the less than saccharine approach it took to promoting Christmas as Elf, Reindeer, Angel and Mouse journey to Myer to find their Christmas gifts.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne also extended the reach of the campaign beyond the original ads with a “Making Of” version.
