Nannas lead Westfield’s Christmas while DJ’s asks how Aussies ‘do’ the festive season

The run into Christmas has started in earnest with Westfield and David Jones both unveiling campaigns they hope will have the cash registers ringing.

The shopping mall giant and the retailer have both taken a different approach to the festive season, with Westfield relying on three celebrity nannas to offer advice on Christmas quandaries.

Saddled under the them of ‘Our nannas help make Christmas a cracker’, the trio provide advice on everything from what to give the people you don’t like (fish sauce) to their own policies on re-gifting (it’s fine, just don’t forget to remove the original card).

Entertainer Patti Newton, a Nanna four times over, is joined in the campaign by chef and restauranteur Angie Hong, who has four grandkids, and stylist Lesley Crawford who boasts eight grandchildren.

David Jones has taken a slightly more traditional approach with its campaign, asking How do you Christmas?

The ad opens with a winter themed train set, laid out in the shopfront window of a David Jones store, before seeking to answer the question.

“You do it early – like, January early. You don’t do it early. Maybe you still believe. Maybe your not sure yet.”

The voiceover continues, asking how many different ways Aussies ‘do Christmas’ before a child’s voice pierces the night with the cry: “It’s Christmas, Mummy wake up”.

The camera then cuts to reveal actor Cate Blanchett rolling over in bed to proclaim sleepily: “Well, I guess that’s how we do it.”

The ad then ends with the tagline: “One name: Endless possibilities”.
