New editor for MX Melbourne

News Limited has appointed Craig Herbert as the new editor of mX Melbourne.

The announcement:

Former Sydney mX editor Craig Herbert has been announced as the senior editor of mX in Melbourne.

Mr Herbert, who has relocated to Melbourne for the role, succeeds Claire Sutherland who has been appointed head of entertainment for News Limited’s network team.

News’ group director – editorial Campbell Reid said: “To have a journalist with Craig’s depth of experience across editing, production and content is a terrific result for mX and I know he will build on the strength of work developed by Claire as he leads mX, which celebrates its 12th birthday this year, into its next stage.

“I know that Craig, who understands and appreciates the commitment of the editorial and advertising teams across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, is thrilled by this opportunity to work at the product’s birthplace alongside the core team of production professionals in Melbourne.”

Mr Herbert said: “The mX brand is synonymous with cheekiness and irreverence; has a deeply loyal reader base and a print platform that encourages first-class innovation and creativity. I’m excited to be leading mX Melbournein its 12th year.”

Mr Herbert began his career on The Daily Sun in Brisbane and moved to Sydney to work on The Daily Mirror and later The Daily Telegraph where he held a number of senior positions including assistant editor. In this role, he was responsible for managing day-to-day marketing and promotion of the paper’s content and editorial talent to external media, as well as managing the links to pre-press and Chullora as production editor.

Mr Herbert was appointed editor of Sydney mX in 2010.

A new editor for mX in Sydney will be announced shortly.
