News Corp pitches in to help The World’s Biggest Garage Sale

News Corp Australia will be one of the partners of this year’s World’s Biggest Garage Sale to be held in Brisbane on October 28, the company has announced.

Started in 2013 by Queensland couple Yasmin and Leigh Grigaliunas to raise money for cancer research, this year’s event will donate proceeds to The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund for sick and disadvantaged children.

Ms Grigaliunas said World’s Biggest Garage Sale had raised over $162,000 over the past four years and the event was about more than selling second hand goods.

“It’s about creating opportunity for good, it’s about making a difference. It’s an opportunity for families to donate goods they no longer need and know that it’s for a good cause,” Grigaliunas continued.

It’s an opportunity for families who may not have a lot to find a bargain. It’s an opportunity for Brisbane locals to give of themselves so they can make a real difference in children’s lives.”

Companies including Suncorp, Coles, Cisco and Isuzu Ute Australia are also supporting the event along with community volunteers.

Managing Director Queensland of News Corp Australia, Jason Scott said: “The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund has been helping Queensland children in need for more than 100 years.

“Every cent raised is spent on specific equipment to help our most vulnerable. Not only is this one of Queensland’s oldest charities, it is also one of the most unique as  one hundred cents in the dollar goes to Queensland children – the admin and operational costs are worn by News Corp Australia and our generous partners.

“The goal for this year’s event is to raise over $250,000. Many staff from News Corp in Queensland are already volunteering their time to this event and there is still the opportunity for more volunteers and businesses to support and help make this truly be the world’s biggest garage sale.”

The World’s Biggest Garage Sale will be held between 6am and 4pm on Saturday October 28 at the Brisbane Gate Industrial Park in Hendra with satellite drop off locations at Capalaba, Kawana and Carrara. Further details are available from the event’s website.
