News Ltd and Duracell team up for Pride of Australia

News Ltd and battery brand Duracell have teamed up for Pride of Australia, a ceremony to recognise unsung heroes –  ‘ordinary people who do extraordinary things.’

The announcement:

News Limited today announced Duracell as the first ever commercial partner for its prideofaustralia™ medal community initiative. The relationship will see Duracell branding on all prideofaustralia™ promotional material, editorial coverage and event signage, plus naming rights for the inaugural national People’s Choice Award.

Now in its seventh year, the prideofaustralia™ medal honours Australia’s unsung heroes by providing highly deserved recognition for ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Supported by all News Limited’s national newspaper titles, Australians can nominate local heroes across ten categories, with the winners receiving a unique sterling silver medal.

“The Pride of Australia awards consistently remind us of the compassion, decency and courage which exists in every corner of the country,’’ said News Limited chairman and chief executive John Hartigan.

“The reach and popularity of our mastheads both in print and online means we are uniquely placed to celebrate those individuals who help make our nation a better place to live.”

Winners are presented with prideofaustralia™ awards at ceremonies in each participating state and territory. Each regional winner then proceeds to a star-studded national awards ceremony to be held in Sydney in November 2011, with the opportunity to become prideofaustralia™ national winners across all categories, including the Duracell People’s Choice Award.

“Duracell is a brand trusted everywhere, to power devices in the home, in the workplace and even in life-threatening situations. We are proud to help recognise and thank those Australians who have shown themselves to be remarkable examples of humanity,” said Alicia Gorken, P&G External Relations Manager.

The prideofaustralia™ medal program is a natural extension of Duracell’s long-standing association with the fire and emergency services, supporting people from all walks of life who volunteer their time and energy to protect their communities. Duracell supports these services with an annual donation of 33,650 batteries trusted to power fire fighting tools – from torches to breathing apparatus and portable communication.
