Nine’s Married at First Sight finals week and Seven’s MKR impact Ten, with share falling to 6.3%

The heated reality television battle between Nine’s Married at First Sight and Seven’s My Kitchen Rules has taken its toll on Ten, with its share falling to 6.3% last night.

Ten, which is awaiting the premiere of Bachelor in Paradise this Sunday, did not have a big-name show to boost its ratings last night, with I’m A Celebrity finishing up early last week.

The absence of Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here also impacted Ten’s share last night

That appeared to have an effect on the network, with its share falling more than five percentage points from its 11.8% main channel share last Sunday.

Its most-watched program was Ten’s Eyewitness News, with 293,000 metro viewers, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings. Ten’s All-Star Family Feud at 7:30pm which featured contestants from the upcoming Bachelor in Paradise, did not make the top 20 programs. The second half-hour of Ten’s The Project at 7pm with Lisa Wilkinson dipped to 250,000 metro viewers. The 6:30pm edition did not make the top 20.

Ten’s share was slightly ahead SBS’ 5% share, but could not beat the ABC, Seven or Nine last night, which reported main channel shares of 11.6%, 21.6% and 26.8% respectively.

Meanwhile, the first of Married at First Sight’s final commitment ceremonies between Dean and Tracey and Charlene and Patrick pulled in 1.487m metro viewers on Nine.

That result saw Nine’s Married at First Sight achieve 385,000 viewers more than rival reality show Seven’s My Kitchen Rules, which had 1.061m

Not only did the show top OzTAM’s overnight preliminary ratings, but it also led the key advertising demographics, 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s. In the 18-49s and 25-54s, Nine’s show achieved 723,000 and 771,000 viewers respectively.

My Kitchen Rules placed second across the key advertising demographics.

Although MKR could not conquer Married at First Sight, Seven News did beat its rival Nine News, with audiences of 1.023m and 1.007m respectively.

Two weeks ago, Nine achieved its highest ever rating episode of Married At First Sight, with 1.535m viewers in the metro cities.

ABC News Sunday was the broadcaster’s most-watched program with 738,000 metro viewers.
