Ogilvy ANZ chief creative officer departs

Ogilvy Network ANZ’s chief creative officer Toby Talbot is departing the agency this week, to find “a new challenge”.

Talbot joined Ogilvy in January 2022 as its inaugural trans-Tasman CCO. He oversaw creative teams across the business, and creative output, in both Australia and New Zealand.

During his tenure he lead initiatives including the “Return on Creativity” framework launch. Under his leadership, the agency had a “creative resurgence”, according to Reed Collins, Ogilvy APAC’s chief creative.

He credited Talbot with leading iconic campaigns including the Matildas’ “‘Til It’s Done”, Coca-Cola’s “Meet Me At The Coke Sign”, La-Roche Posay’s “The Spot”, and KFC’s “Kentucky Fly”.

These projects were known for their “bold, culturally relevant integration of social, earned, and brand strategies”, according to a release sent on Tuesday.

“I want to personally thank Toby for all he’s accomplished in his time at Ogilvy,” Collins said in the release.

“He’s been a true advocate of borderless creativity across the network, a magnet for the next generation of talent and creative leadership. And the work really does speak for itself. He leaves us in an incredibly strong creative position and I’m confident about our future.”

Talbot said his time at Ogilvy has been “an incredible journey”.

“It’s been all consuming, but the way Ogilvy now uses creative thinking to go way beyond the transactional approaches of old, I’m really proud of where we are today,” he said in the release.

“Now feels like the right time for me to step away. I want a new challenge. If I reflect on the work I love to do, it’s ideas that drive commercial outcomes. Or behaviour change. Or some kind of major reappraisal. These are transferrable skills and I intend to put what I’ve learned to use.”

He will leave at the end of this week. Ogilvy’s creative leadership team of Max McKeon, Ant Simmons, Nina East, and Bridget Jung remain in place.

Talbot’s departure comes a month after Ogilvy Network ANZ’s CEO Sally Kissane also announced her exit.
