Olympic gymnast Simone Biles faces off against Jonathan Van Ness in new US rendition of Uber Eats campaign

Uber Eats’ latest dynamic duo is four-time Olympic gold medal gymnast, Simone Biles, and comedian, activist and host of Netflix’s Queer Eye, Jonathan Van Ness.

The ad, which is only running in the US, features Van Ness, a known fan of gymnastics, taking on Biles in a floor routine in matching leotards. Biles is accompanied by the disclaimer ‘She’s the G.O.A.T. [greatest of all time] Do not attempt’ where as Van Ness’ performance is given the comment ‘Be fabulous. Do not attempt’.

The latest duo follow Uber Eat’s launching the Australian-born brand platform ‘Tonight I’ll be eating’ in the US and Canada with Star Wars’ Mark Hamill taking on Star Trek’s Sir Patrick Stewart.

Special Group Australia is the creative force behind the ongoing campaign, which originated in 2017 and has since grown from using single celebrities to duos and tennis stars during the Australian Open. Last year’s Australian rendition featured Kim Kardashian taking the place of Kim Day from the Kath and Kim series, alongside Magda Szubanski’s famous character from the show, Sharon Strzelecki.

The latest ad with Biles and Van Ness, was created by the Australian agency in conjunction with the a local team on the ground in the US. A small production team in LA shot the campaign, following social distancing protocols.

Uber Eats’ head of marketing for the US and Canada, Georgie Jeffreys, said: “Simone Biles and Jonathan Van Ness were the perfect fit for our second spot – a reigning gymnastics champion and a mega-fan with some impressive moves himself. We hope the unexpected pair once again brings joy to viewers.”

Biles and Van Ness will star in ads across TV, social, radio, digital and out-of-home.

Special Group Australia’s founding partner, Cade Heyde, commented: “We’re excited to bring the second execution of Uber Eats’ ‘Tonight, I’ll be Eating’ campaign to North America. We can’t wait to watch the platform continue to drive conversation and provide great entertainment.”
