Online recipe site launches with new revenue model
Sydney based start-up founder Brendan Yell has launched a new site with a 50% revenue share for contributors.
The announcement:
The launch of the Australian based website RecipeLover.com marks a world first for an online recipe site that will give 50% of the advertising revenue to the contributors.
RecipeLover.com will launch this week in San Francisco at the Techcrunch Disrupt SF conference and has been selected to exhibit in StartUp Alley.
The website has been developed by Sydney based ShopFree.com founder Brendan Yell.
“There is no doubt that revenue sharing is a future model for social networking and community sites such as this.” Brendan Yell, creator of RecipeLover.
“RecipeLover allows users to store, share and discuss great recipes between friends and other recipe lovers around Australia and the world whilst also earning a reward for their contributions” said Mr Yell
The website hopes to have more than 10,000 recipes and 500 videos by the end of the year.
“Video is so easily available to home users now, it seems a no-brainer to allow customers to upload videos as well” said Mr Yell
The RecipeLover website was developed in consultation with Google with whom it will source it’s advertising content and video capabilities via YouTube.
“RecipeLover does this by easily allow their members to profit from the recipes they contribute via the Google AdSense model.” said Mr Yell.
There has already been strong interest for such a concept with RecipeLover amassing more than 30,000 members and 1000 recipes during its test phase.
The site will also have a mobile app which will store all your recipes locally on your phone/tablet and use the camera to take photos, and also digitise recipes.
“Techcrunch Disrupt is the biggest startup conference in the world so we are very exciting to be demoing our product there.”
