Ooh Media appoints ex-Nine strategist as chief technology & information officer

Ooh Media has appointed Mat Yelavich to lead the out-of-home provider’s digital transformation in the role of chief technology and information officer.

Yelavich was most recently the chief information officer at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and prior to that spent a decade at Nine in roles including chief information officer and group information officer.

While at Nine, Yelavich played a major role in organisation’s digital transformation, as well as the integration of Fairfax Media following its acquisition by Nine.

Yelavich also brings experience in technology delivery and strategic leadership across media and other industries, having also spent time at Grass Valley Australia, BSkyB, and Al Jazeera International.

Ooh Media CEO, Cathy O’Connor, said: “We have a market-leading position in data and scale in Out of Home.

“Mat is the strategist we’ve been looking for to take us to the next level when it comes to deploying technology to build the business and capitalise on our unique strengths for the benefit of our customers.

“He has an outstanding track record of delivering enterprise-wide innovation in technology, extensive media industry experience, and the vision required in a dynamic and rapidly changing industry. We are very much looking forward to him joining the leadership team.”

Ooh Media hasn’t had a full-time chief information officer for over a year, with David Leahy serving as interim chief technology officer. He will continue to oversee Ooh’s technology function until Mat starts, and then revert to his prior role in the company as group director – corporate services

Of his appointment, Yelavich added: “I feel privileged to be working with Cathy and the leadership team, and it’s great to be joining such a fantastic organisation. I’m absolutely driven to make an impact, drive innovation and help further oOh!’s transformation.”

It’s the second senior appointment at Ooh Media in recent weeks, following the hire of Raechel Gavin as chief people and culture officer, a role she’ll take up from 13 September.
