Pie Face prepares…

The chances that News Corp’s commentators are going to let the visit of British labour MP Tom Watson pass quietly seem low.

The man who led the charge against Rupert Murdoch in the Parliamentary News of the World phone hacking inquiry is due in Australia shortly.

He got this welcome in The Daily Telegraph from Tim Blair today:

“If you followed England’s Leveson inquiry into phone hacking, you’ll remember Watson as the hefty fellow with the designer specs who has issues with News Corp. If you ran a pie shop within waddling distance of the UK parliament, you’ll remember him as the bloke who put your kids through university and financed your BMW.

“Watson, who once consumed the $8000 maximum parliamentary allowance for food within a single year, says he hopes to give speeches and hold community meetings, snack time permitting, while in Australia…

“I’m looking forward to it. So are the nation’s restaurateurs, chair repairmen and doorway wideners.”

Welome, Mr Watson. Welcome.
