‘Prescription medicines kill more Victorians than the road toll’, Safe Script campaign says
The Victorian government has warned people about the danger of prescription medicines, noting they kill more Victorians than the road toll.
In a campaign created by DPR&Co, the ad highlights that even though prescribed medications can help people after surgery and with pain, anxiety and sleep disorders, they can easily take a hold of users and lead to their demise.
The Safe Script campaign shows a gigantic pill at first assisting sufferers, but then engulfing them while a voice over warns people of its addictive qualities.
The ad aims to promote a new initiative by the Victorian government to help prescription pill users “stay on the safe side”.
In 2017, prescription medication killed 414 people.
In a bid to reduce these statistics, the campaign is running across TV, radio and digital.
Was this the best creative idea they were presented with? Would hate to see the others. Shamefully bad advertising. Tasteless and a massive waste of public money.

I am currently suffering from chronic pain anxiety and depression and occasionally have problems with sleep. Seeing this new campaign on TV I have become very anxious and have taken myself off some off my meds. I intend to speak to my GP next visit. I have been under constant medical support and have and will be seeing a number of specialists for over a decade. My GP has my drug permit and some of my meds are on Autherization scripts. I am very careful with my meds and never seek to be completely pain free like some people do. I have been on this medication regime and not caused an accident in fact after decades of driving in Melbourne I was in one driving accident caused by the other driver. Which increased my pain and medical problems and anxiety. I work daily on keeping my pain at a bearable level and my anxiety down. Ads like this add to stigma. Yes stigma people use to say why don’t you go back to work?Just like mental health,, work injuries, TAC etc. I am anxious and angry about the Ads on TV. I don’t need your department to make me feel less a person
