R/GA global social lead to keynote the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit, plus more speakers announced

Managing director of social at R/GA, Kyle Bunch, will fly in from the US to present a keynote on the future of sport consumption at the Mumbrella Sport Marketing Summit.

Bunch will join other recently confirmed speakers including Carlo Kasparian, the GM of digital marketing and content at Football Federation Australia, Karen Lunn the CEO of Australian Ladies Professional Golf, Paul Bittar, GM of Sports Partnerships at Sportsbet and more.

Bunch, who has worked with brands including Nike, Telstra, the NRL and Converese, will take to the stage to discuss the rapidly changing sport media landscape as well as the fickle habits of the sport consumer. It follows a detailed study into sports, brands and broadcasts that R/GA undertook as part of its FutureVision series. New streaming technology opportunities, brand marketing strategies and the rise of eSports will all be discussed in-depth.

Catapult’s Shifman will discuss the monetisation of athlete performance data

Athlete and team performance data will also take centre stage as Adir Shiffman, executive chair of Catapult, dives into the numbers and explains how they can be used in fan engagement strategies and eventually be monetised.

Catapult, an Australian sports tech success story, creates technology that helps athletes and teams monitor and improve performance. Its solutions are used by some of the most famous sporting teams in the world including the Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Paris Saint Germain, the Greater Western Sydney Giants, the Melbourne Storm, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton FC, the Wallabies and more.

Grassroots sport will also take centre stage when Matt Delves, the commercial and sponsorship director at Dunbar Rovers FC, explains how the football (soccer) team playing in the NPL has attracted big-name sponsors and commercialised its operations for the benefit of its players.

The Rovers have created a commercial model to support young players and attract big brands at a grassroots level. As the only team to provide free football to young players thanks to its brand partnerships, the club has gained praise from well-known football identities including Craig Foster and Ange Postecoglou.

Lunn and Evans join the panel looking into how women’s sports needs to be marketed to grow its fan base

Meanwhile, Louise Evans, communications director and mentor at Women Sport Australia and Karen Lunn, CEO of Australian Ladies Professional Golf, will join Kellogg’s Tamara Howe on the panel discussing how to market women’s sport. Up for discussion is the current state of women’s sport, whether or not it is being marketed correctly, how to grow the fan base and what needs to change.

Kasparian and Remond will join the panel discussing the growth of eSports

New speakers have also been confirmed for the panel exploring the substantial growth in eSports and the marketing opportunities that come with it. On the panel, the Football Federation of Australia’s Kasparian and Showdown’s Scott Wenkart will join Dominic Remond, CEO of HT&E owned Gfinity Australia, a specialist eSports business promoting professional eSports.

The panel will examine the growth of eSports, how brands can work with the various virtual leagues and what results they can expect to achieve if they get the marketing strategy right.

Sportsbet’s Bittar will join a new panel to discuss the relevance of gambling campaigns in and around sport

And in a newly announced panel, Paul Bittar, GM of sports partnerships at Sportsbet, will join soon-to-be-announced industry experts to discuss the relationship between betting agencies and sport.

With the debate continuing about the relevance and appropriateness of marketing gambling around sport, the panel will look to bring the audience up-to-date on the thinking of the industry’s major players.
