Sam Thompson quits DMG, replaced by Austereo’s Helen Davies
Sam Thompson, general manger of DMG Radio Australia, has resigned as the Melbourne general manager for Nova 100 and Classic Rock 91.5FM.
Thompson said: “Six years is a long time in the one role. It’s now time to explore fresh challenges and for new opportunities.”
She will be replaced by Helen Davies, who is currently director of entertainment content solutions at Austereo.
Kingsley Hall, DMG Radio Australia COO, said: “After eight years we respect Sam’s decision after a long time in a challenging role. In Sam’s time with us she has displayed all of those traits that we at dmg Radio Australia consider essential – passion, creativity and integrity. Fortunately Sam has agreed to stay on and work on some other projects.”
Thompson’s departure and Davies’ appointment follows a good showing for Classic Rock in the radio ratings yesterday, when it grew weekday share from 2.8% to 4% – the biggest ratings jump of any station.
4% for 91.5 after six years on air.
I don’t mean to be harsh but that can barely be counted as a success for DMG.

Sadly, DMG has continued to plummet. The upper echelon is massively top heavy, with national sales managers, national integration managers, group directors, plus station level directors, general managers state integration teams, local integration teams, digital integration teams, content directors.
There’s actually only one person that works in the company – all the rest are chiefs.
Sadly, it appears Sam Thompson is the Frederick Fleet for Edward John Smith. It’s only a matter of time now before the captain goes down with the ship.
