SCA revives head of regional content role with Blair Woodcock

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has appointed a new head of regional content, with Blair Woodcock taking on the role effective 10 May.

As well as leading SCA’s regional content and initiatives across 70 regional Hit and Triple M stations, Woodcock is also joining the content leadership team at the network.

SCA had been advertising for the role since March, with Woodcock appointed after 13 years with the network.

Woodcock is the first to serve in the dedicated regional role since Mickey Maher

Woodcock will be the first to serve in the role since current SCA head of music Mickey Maher ended his five-year tenure in 2019. At that time, a leadership restructure saw Maher transition into a head of music role for Triple M, eventually becoming head of music for both networks.

Those changes saw Triple M’s Mike Fitzpatrick and Hit Network’s Gemma Fordham have their remit expand to cover national content across each network.

In 2020, another new leadership content reshuffle saw Dave Cameron join as chief content officer, cover both the Hit and Triple M networks. That announcement noted that Fitzpatrick and Fordham would be renewing their focus on metro markets.

It also saw SCA put regional radio under its new ‘community’ division, which Dan Bradley and Adrian Brine, as new assistant heads of the Triple M and Hit Network, oversaw.

When Brine departed the network in November of 2020, it was unclear whether SCA would make further changes to its regional leadership structure.

Woodcock got his start at SCA in 2008 as a breakfast announcer in Gladstone, and has served as regional Queensland content director.

Most recently he was assistant content director for Triple M Brisbane since September 2020 as well as Triple M’s group content director Southern Queensland.

Of the appointment, chief content officer, Dave Cameron said: “Blair has been a superstar at SCA since joining the organisation in 2008. He lives and breathes regional content and the passion he has for our regional business is unparalleled.

“I am confident that this appointment will help bring our mantra of ‘Proudly National, Fiercely Local’ to life right across our regional footprint.”

Woodcock, who will report to Cameron, added: ” It’s truly exciting to get to work with a great bunch of people who love making content that connects to their local markets each and every day.

“Also, having worked in those markets, and alongside them in the past, it is a great honour to be leading our regional content teams. I can’t wait to dive right into this role.”
