‘You are all you ever need to be’ – Serena Williams stars in another Berlei ad

Women’s underwear label Berlei has unveiled its second brand ad featuring Serena Williams.

The film, produced by creative agency Emotive, shows the 23-time grand slam winner apparently delivering an empowering message to women, before revealing that she’s actually speaking to her unborn baby.

The film is the second in Berlei’s Do It Yourself campaign fronted by the tennis player, who began wearing the brand’s sports bras in 2006 after her mother introduced them to her during the Australian Open.

The 60-second video opens with a haunting piano score and shots of window netting fluttering in the breeze.

The camera then pans to a shot of Williams looking into the mirror and slowly delivering the lines: “You’re one in a million. One in six billion, even. Flawed and flawless. Human. Be yourself. Trust yourself. You are all you ever need to be. And I can’t wait to meet you.”

The camera pans out to reveal a shot of her touching her pregnant stomach.

She said in a statement: “This campaign is an affirmation for the next generation of women.

“Regardless of whether I have a daughter or not – my hope and Berlei’s hope for the next 100 years of women is they start their journey with self-belief and the confidence to self-invest, self-prioritise and self-nurture.”

The campaign launched nationally today and will debut on the athlete’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Lucielle Vardy, chief strategy officer at Emotive, said: “Where the first Berlei Do It For Yourself campaign shook the category up with an intimate insight into what Serena does just for herself – dance, this piece takes an even more intimate approach.

“The emotional power of video combined with Serena’s very personal delivery is exactly what we aimed for.”

Williams’ first ad for Berlei debuted in January and saw her channel the movie Flashdance.
