Serena Williams helps Nine attract 619,000 viewers for Australian Open

Tennis star Serena Williams helped Nine achieve a metro audience of 619,000 as she beat Eugenie Bouchard in night four of the Australian Open.

According to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary ratings, the Australian Open still didn’t manage to beat Ten’s reality TV program I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, which saw 678,000 viewers tune in.

Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here was also the most watched program across the key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

The reality program has managed to win the 7.30pm time slot every day this week.

The Australian Open was the second most watched program in the key advertising demographics.

On its 2019 debut the Australian Open managed 589,000 viewers, while Alex de Minaur helped the sporting game to a metro rating of 726,000 for its third night.

Seven’s Big Bash game attracted 466,000 for the innings break as Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunders battled it out. The first session of the game managed 454,000, while the second session saw 401,000 tune in.

The game came to a halt when the lights went out after a power outage at the Gabba.

Meanwhile, Seven News was the most watched program of the evening as it scored 894,000 metro viewers compared to Nine News’ 751,000.

Nine won the evening’s ratings with a 22.7% overall audience share, beating Seven’s 15.6%, Ten’s 13.1%, ABC’s 11% and SBS’ 3.3% share.

Ten Bold managed to win the multi-channels with a 4.6% share, topping Seven Two’s 4.3% share.
