Seven Network to cut Gold Coast bulletin from this week

The Seven Network has confirmed that it will axe its 7NEWS Gold Coast bulletin from this week.

In a statement given to Mumbrella on Tuesday, the network said the Gold Coast bulletin “will be streamlined to run as a multi-faceted bureau”.

The changes will mean the 5.30pm local Gold Coast news will finish up this Thursday. From then on, local viewers will be able to watch the hour-long Seven’ Afternoon News from 4.00pm, The Chase Australia from 5.00pm, and 7NEWS live at 6.00pm with Max Futcher and Sarah Greenhalgh.

Seven said “most staff” are expected to remain in the Gold Coast bureau, while some will relocate to Brisbane. Other team members, including sales, are believed to not be impacted by the changes.

Seven Network director of news and current affairs and Seven West Media editor-in-chief, Anthony De Ceglie, said the move “is about bringing together and modernising both our Gold Coast local news and Brisbane’s unrivalled 6.00pm bulletin”.

“This change in direction in no way diminishes our commitment to news coverage on the Gold Coast. Quite the opposite,” he explained.

“Now, a dedicated team in a turbo-charged news bureau will inject the most crucial Gold Coast news in the metropolitan 6.00pm bulletin every night.

“For viewers, it means more people across the region can get home from work, school and play in time for 6.00pm, and the issues and stories that matter to them most will have an even stronger voice in the all-important nightly news.”

The news comes just a week after Seven presented its 2025 Upfront, which presented a slate focused on live streaming sport, bolstered news offerings, predictive AI insights, and a new ad-buying system that trades in audience members, not channels.

Meanwhile, Futcher and Greenhalgh’s new 7NEWS Brisbane partnership was only announced last month following the axing of long-running presenter, Sharyn Ghidella.
