Seven’s First Dates Australia premieres with 699,000 metro viewers

The season three premiere of Seven’s First Dates Australia was down on season two’s premiere episode by almost 100,000 and could not beat Nine’s ratings juggernaut, The Block.

According to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings, the premiere episode managed 699,000 metro viewers, placing 10th on the ratings ladder, and third across the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.

Meanwhile The Block, which ran in the same time slot, won the night with 1.178m metro viewers, beating First Dates Australia and Ten’s Shark Tank, which captured 470,000 metro viewers.

It managed to top all key advertising demographics – the 16-39s, 18-49s, and 25-54s.

Last night also marked the return of Seven’s 800 Words, which achieved 696,000 metro viewers in the later time slot.

However the drama did not beat Nine’s The Big Bang Theory, which had a metro audience of 808,000, and placed second across all key advertising demographics.

Ten’s NCIS, which also ran at 8:30pm, pulled 325,000.

Despite the return of two new series, Seven’s Home & Away was its most-watched entertainment program, with 725,000 metro viewers.

On the news front, Seven won the night with 1.006m metro viewers, ahead of Nine’s 942,000.

However, Nine won the average audience share with 22.1%, ahead of Seven’s 19.7% and Ten’s 11.8%.

ABC managed 10.8% and SBS had a share of 5.8%.
