Sorrell: WPP is a matter of life and death
If anyone doubted WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell’s attachment to his company, he cleared it up during an interview with the BBC this week.
Talking on the broadcaster’s Bottom Line programme, Sorrell said: ‘Founding a business is as near as a man can come to giving birth.”
And just to make sure, he appropriated Bill Shankley’s famous statement about Liverpool Football Club, saying:
“WPP isn’t just a matter of life and death. It’s more important than that.”
He also told the show – broadcast in Australia on pay TV channel BBC World – that his one recent business regret was allowing the company’s headcount to grow faster than revenue last year.
