Starcom Melbourne appoints Peter Toone as GM
Starcom MediaVest has appointed a general manager of its Melbourne office – in what it claims is a newly created role.
Peter Toone has been promoted from business director to GM by Starcom’s COO, Chris Nolan, to whom Toone will report.
Nolan formerly managed the Melbourne office, Starcom insists.
Nolan said: “We have created this role to meet the demands of a rapidly growing business, delivering a broad range of services to our clients. This role will focus on anticipating our client needs and ensuring our team is driving growth for our clients.”
The COO went on to say: “Peter has more than 12 years media experience and has covered most leading categories including FMCG, pharmaceuticals, auto, finance, fast food restaurants and retail, among others.”
Toone has been with Starcom since 2006 joining as manager on the Mars account and in 2010 was moved to business director across the Mars group. Toone will run accounts including Ten, Novartis and True Value Solar.
The move comes just a week after the exit of Starcom Sydney boss, Bob Goodge, who was with the company for 13 years.
Despite Starcom’s claim that the role is a new one, in February 2010 it announced Michael Leeds as its Melbourne GM.
Good on you Tooney, well deserved – you are one of media’s favourite people for very good reason.

Thanks for the tip-off Anonymous.
I’m afraid we were misled. After they made the announcement, we did specifically ring up to ask the question about whether anybody had held the role previously. They told us that it was a new role.
I’ve now amended the story to reflect the reality.
Cheers,
