Sydney radio ratings: 2Day FM’s breakfast show bows out with 2.4%
After being abruptly cancelled just before the end of survey five, 2Day FM’s Sydney breakfast show, featuring Ed Kavalee, Grant Denyer and Ash London, has limped to its conclusion with a share of just 2.4%, a 0.7 percentage point drop from last survey’s 3.1%.
Survey five, which ran from 6 May to 29 June and 14 July to 17 August, is the final survey the show will appear in, with next survey instead showing the results for 2Day FM’s new focus of music for breakfast with announcer Jamie Angel.
The breakfast show climbed as high as 4.5%, but slumped back soon after. Its closing figure of 2.4% is lower than the 2.8% that 2Day FM’s 2017 line-up of the Em Rusciano Radio Show with Harley Breen finished on.
Elsewhere in the ratings, AM station ABC Sydney’s Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck climbed to a share of 11.5% in the breakfast slot, up 1.6 percentage points from the previous survey, pushing it ahead of FM leaders Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson who saw their Kiis FM breakfast show climb 0.1 percentage point to 11.0%, meaning they retained their FM breakfast crown.
ABC Sydney still has some room to grow though if it wants to tackle overall leader Alan Jones. His 2GB AM breakfast show sits on 17.1%, a 0.3 percentage point drop from last survey, but still gives him the most popular show overall in the breakfast slot. Jones’ recent comments about New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern, which saw him suggest Australian prime minister Scott Morrison should shove a sock down her throat, occurred just before the survey period ended. Jones was given a warning by his 2GB bosses as advertisers pulled their support for both him and the station.
Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM dropped to 4.1% overall in survey five, falling 0.6 percentage points, dropping it behind Triple J (4.5%) and just above ABC Classic (3.8%). Comparatively, ARN’s Kiis FM rose to 8.2%, up 0.1 percentage point on last survey.
2GB is still the most popular station overall with a 13.4% share, a 0.6 percentage point drop from last survey.
Triple M’s Moonman in the Morning dropped 0.1 percentage point to 5.9%, while the station gained in the drive slot for a 7.4% share, up from 6.8% last survey. 2Day FM also dropped in this slot, 0.5 percentage points to 4.3%.
Nova slipped to 7.2% overall from 7.5% in survey four, while Smooth FM also fell, 0.8 percentage points to 9.1%.
