Ten appoints IPG Mediabrands’ Michael Bass as negotiation manager

Michael Bass, who departed IPG Mediabrands in April to “discover what else is out there“, has joined Network Ten as negotiation manager.

Ten has been bolstering its sales team this month, after ending its relationship with MCN and bringing the function back in house.

Ten’s international owner, CBS, now wants to control the monetisation process, Ten’s chief sales officer Rod Prosser said at Advertising Week earlier this month.

Michael Stanford, formerly Initiative’s chief creative solutions officer, will return to the network on September 17 to lead the new creative arm of the sales division, Ten Imagine.

Mumbrella understands Bass will be assisting Ten with its trading strategy.

Proser has previously said the network is now in an excellent position to “maximise revenue and commercial opportunities”.

“We have defined our digital and trading solution with Ten Interactive and Ten Exchange, and will continue to build the strength of our commercial, strategy and integration team,” he said.

On the appointment, Prosser said: “We’re delighted to be working with someone of Michael’s calibre over the coming months as we continue to build Ten’s new sales team. It’s important that we look to the best in the industry to help us deliver great solutions for our clients. We’re looking forward to announcing some more key appointments in the coming weeks.”

Bass joined IPG Mediabrands as trading director of Initiative in 2011, before moving up to become national trading and negotiations director in 2014 for the group, and then general manager of investment.

Upon departing agency-side, Bass said in an email that change was inevitable.

“With all the considerable and rapid changes across the media industry, it’s time to discover what else is out there, what else I can be inspired by and what else I can learn. I now have the opportunity to do just that,” the email said.

Bass has been approached for comment.
