The Facebook status you need to hear, plus Vice, Bauer, Allure, Junkee, Conversant and more at Mumbrella’s Publish
How is Facebook battling bad behaviour on the platform and what is it doing to increase collaboration with publishers and support trustworthy, informative and local news? Facebook’s news partnerships lead for ANZ, Andrew Hunter, will speak at Mumbrella’s Publish to reveal all that and more.
Hunter, who’s held senior positions at publishers including News Corp and Nine as well as Microsoft, joined Facebook late last year in the newly created role – one which has increased in importance as the issues of trust, publisher revenues and diversified content strategies continue to challenge the industry.
Mumbrella Publish takes place on September 20 in Sydney with earlybird tickets on sale now. The Mumbrella Publish Awards will be held after the conference with entries open now.
Also confirmed in the program is a panel on the ramifications of youth publishing. Sorrel Osborne, chief operating officer at Conversant Media, Jason Scott, CEO of Allure Media and Neil Ackland, founder of Junkee will discuss how the strategies and content delivery of youth publishers have shaped the way the demographic interacts with media and what effect this will have as these consumers grow older.
Youth-led publishers have grown in significance over the past decade, and their original targets are now at different stages of life. But what will this mean for other media generally targeting older demographics? The panel will discuss whether or not the expectations of these consumers will now shape the rest of the media industry and force a change in content delivery.
In another newly confirmed panel, Myki Slonim, director and publisher at Vice Australia, will join other industry leaders examining how publishers are now expanding into content opportunities outside of their traditional space – and will explore if it’s time for the publishing industry to go “full service”.
Vice has produced content across print, digital, TV, social platforms and more to create a publishing business more rounded than most. Slonim and other publishers in similar positions will discuss how to juggle and scale this content creation strategy as well as look at the revenue and partnership opportunities it provides.
Completing the previously announced panel on media metrics is director of audience development at Bauer Media, Annabel Hodges. She joins Mal Dale, general manager of The Readership Works, Chris Walton, managing Director at Nunn Media and Michele Levine, CEO of Roy Morgan Research to continue the heavily debated topic of how to measure.
Mumbrella’s Publish conference will take place in Sydney at the Amora Hotel Jamison on September 20 with the Mumbrella Publish Awards held afterwards at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf. Earlybird tickets are on sale now and entry into the awards is open here.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think I’ll be taking any advice on Youth-led publishing (if there really is such a thing) from the likes of Microsoft, Bauer, News Corp or Nine.
More chance of me trusting Nielsen ratings.

Hi there, Pashto,
Microsoft, Bauer, News Corp or Nine won’t actually be talking about youth-led publishing.
There will be a panel including Junkee, Allure and Conversant about how publishers appealing to youth markets have changed the media expectations of a large group of Australians, which in turn could shape how content is produced and distributed by others.
Thanks,
Damian
