The Voice and Masterchef battle in the advertising demographics, but Nine scoops the night

The Voice has dropped below the 1m viewers it was pulling for the last few nights, still delivering a respectful 977,000 metro viewers on Tuesday evening and taking the win in two of the three key advertising demographics.

Nine’s singing competition was the most-watched in the 18-49s and the 25-54s, but was knocked off the top spot by Ten’s Masterchef in the 16-39s.

Overall though, the night was Nine’s, with 22.4% of the overall audience share as a channel and 29.7% as a network, thanks to The Voice, A Current Affair and Nine News.

A Current Affair picked up 50,000 viewers on last week to deliver 847,000 metro viewers last night, while Nine News brought in 986,000.

Nine was also the overall winner in metro audiences in the key advertising demographic of 25-54, holding a 24.3% audience share. The channel also took the win in the 16-39 metro audiences with 21%.

The most watched program overall was still Seven News, 1.18m tuned in for the first half and 1.126m for the second which airs as Today Tonight in some cities. Home and Away also performed well for the network, finding 30,000 viewers on last week to see 753,000 tune in.

Andrew Denton’s Interview, which saw the titular host speak with WA teen Scott Guerini who has been charity fundraising since the age of four, also gained on last week, grabbing another 40,000 viewers for 520,000.

Masterchef was the most-watched program for Ten, delivering 635,000 viewers, followed by The Project on 487,000.

ABC News had 722,000 metro viewers, and 502,000 tuning in for 7.30.

Beyond Nine in the audience shares, Seven held 20.5%, Ten 11.8% and ABC 9.0%. In the networks, Seven took 28.9%, Ten 17.9% and ABC 14.8%.

7mate was the most watched secondary channel with 4.1%.
