Thinkerbell wins a consolidated account for Ssang Yong including media and creative

Thinkerbell has won a consolidated creative and media account for Korean automotive brand Ssang Yong Australia.

The agency’s remit also includes earned media, digital and brand strategy.

Ssang Yong has appointed Thinkerbell to a consolidated account including media and PR

Ssang Yong relaunched in Australia in 2018, in an effort to capitalise on the growth of the Korean car market and the increasing popularity of SUVs. Thinkerbell has been tasked with building the brand’s presence in Australia.

Steve Dimitrovski, digital and brand marketing manager at Ssang Yong Australia said: “We were extremely impressed with Thinkerbell’s approach to building Ssang Yong in Australia, particularly their focus on our brand and what’s needed as an overall approach for success. We look forward to growing the Ssang Yong business together in Australia.”

The move to a consolidated account is a departure for the brand compared to its international management. According to Thinkerbell, the local model will “ensure a holistic approach across all facets of the business”.

Margie Reid, managing partner of Thinkerbell said: “Ssang Yong’s passion for success and growth is wedded to building strong foundations in Australia and we look forward to working together to ensure Ssang Yong is a popular choice for Australians – with, of course, a dose of ‘Measured Magic’.”

Thinkerbell launched in 2017 with Adam Ferrier, Jim Ingram and Ben Couzens at the helm. It is backed by PWC which owns a minority stake.

In early 2018 it won the creative account for Vegemite, ending the brand’s 74-year relationship with JWT. This relationship was then expanded when the agency was appointed to run all media and creative accounts for Bega.

Last year, Thinkerbell won the creative account for Seafolly, creative and PR for Royal Caribbean Cruises, media and creative for tourism group Journey Beyond, and were added to the creative roster for Lion.

Work begins on the Ssang Young account immediately.
