Today Show shake-up continues with Brooke Boney in and Sylvia Jeffreys out

As 2018 draws to a close, Nine is continuing to drip-feed changes to its line up for next year’s Today program.

The network is looking to reinvigorate its breakfast staple following declining ratings.

Boney will work alongside entertainment editor Richard Wilkins

Last week, it was announced long-serving co-host Karl Stefanovic would not return to the show next year, with bother Peter Stefanovic – who sometimes acted as a correspondent for Today, but more recently appeared on the Weekend Today program – dropped completely from the network.

It has now been revealed Today’s newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys (who is married to Peter Stefanovic) will also step away from the program into a yet-to-be-identified prime-time role.

In addition, entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, will make room for Nine’s new recruit Brooke Boney.

Boney has worked at NITV and SBS, but more recently finished up as newsreader on the ABC’s youth radio station Triple J.

Wilkins will remain as Nine’s entertainment editor and will, according to reports, take on a more significant role in the later (and less prominent) Today Extra.

The network has insisted Boney is not replacing Wilkins and said the two will be working alongside each other.

Boney echoed that sentiment.

“I’m really thrilled to be joining the team and so excited to be working alongside Richard Wilkins. He’s such a legend in the business. It’s such an exciting time to be joining Nine and [I] am looking forward to learn[ing] from everyone on the Today team,” she said.

“As a young girl growing up in the country I watched Today, so it’s really awesome to know it’ll be my new home.”

Whilst on Triple J, Boney began every broadcast with “Yaama”, which translates to “Hello” in Gamilaroi – the language of her indigenous clan in northern NSW.
