Top Design and The Renovators fall again in Wednesday ratings
After losing almost a third of its audience last week, the third episode of Nine’s Top Design took another tumble in the ratings, falling to 691,000 from 799,000 a week ago.
The Block, which aired before Top Design at 7pm on Nine, pulled in 1.346m. But the channel could not hold on to the audience, with viewers switching over to Masterchef on Ten – which won the night with 1.675m.
Ten’s The Renovators also showed worrying signs of decline, dipping to 855,000, down from 974,000 on Tuesday night.
ABC1’s Angry Boys staged something of a recovery, pulling its audience up from 453,000 a fortnight ago to 612,000 in the 9pm slot, but is still a far cry from its 1m+ debut, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.
Today and Sunrise appear to have reached a stalemate in the battle for breakfast, with just 3,000 viewers separating the morning shows.
More to follow
The decline/failure of Renovators is a slap in the pants reminder to the ‘inventors’ of this formulaic muck. Had it worked I can only imagine what other areas of ‘lifestyle’ might have been Masterchefed…
This week on The Tourists, boho Brisbane couple Tarni and Sheet go head to head with Sydney flatmates Marc and Ken to create the best walking tour itinerary of Tamworth.

Doc I hope you’ve registered that Tourist idea….Shine will be after it if not…

The Renovators lacks the sophistication of Masterchef. Many of the contestants are bogans on the one hand but the presenter Vogue woman is too snobby for the show.
The show moves too quickly and people jumping out of trucks in a warehouse with a mad dash to get furniture etc does not lead to good design. There are some things you just cant hurry.
Lets say it right now.Its a bomb and the Shine ” genuises” arent such genuises. The arrogance “shines” straight through.

Who would have thought that an audience wouldn’t be interested in watching people hammer nails into a post? Clicking around the other night I stumbled across this ‘competitive nailing’ and I laughed out loud.
Hope the show doesn’t get axed before the ‘watching paint dry’ challenge…

I’ve watched two episodes of the Renovators now and so far here are the highlights:
1. People banging in a nail.
2. People putting up wallpaper.
3. People painting a wall.
4. People making a room out of car parts.
Throw into all this some sort of monumentally stupid system of choosing houses where some of the contestants are going to work on for weeks but won’t win a thing….and I’m utterly lost.

Yeah, I watched a show the other night about Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Just some old bloke slopping some paint on a canvas.
I suppose it’s all to do with the lens you look at the world through.

I was over the Renovators before it even began. Total promo over-saturation.

I watch a few segs of the Renovators this week. the set looks fantastic and I think the hosts are great. However the editing smells of desperation.it looks to me like this show has been edited a hundred times before we see it. It jumps around to much and is hard to follow. if you miss a minute your stuffed. and as for painting a wall…on prime time TV….I don’t think so.

What a waste of talented renovators, builders, designers and handymen. The concept of building everyone up to gain a position on a show and then facing immediate elimination is OLD! Seen it , over it. Just another nasty show. It is like watching someone get fired. No Thanks!
Why not – get the best renovators in the business, teams of 4 like you have already done. Work together and the best team at the end, win the profits of all 6 properties. Gives teams a chance to bond, work through differences and celebrate a win together!
This show just brings out what we all go through everyday – each man for himself…greed, greed and more greed. Try a different approach and actually show ‘ renovating’ rather than eliminations.
