Triple J and Double J commission new theme music

As part of ABC’s Fresh Start Fund, Triple J and Double J have commissioned new theme music and content to support local artists.

The announcement:

Your radio is going to sound a little different ‘cos triple j and Double J have commissioned new theme music in an effort to help support local artists impacted by the pandemic.

As part of the ABC’s wider Fresh Start Fund, the new-look radio sounds will be made by Australian artists from all across the country, from different genres and at different stages in their careers. Expect to hear the new theme songs on air in the latter half of 2020!

On triple j Hack, you’ll hear new sounds made by the likes of renowned producer Trials, electronic siblings Cosmo’s Midnight and techno producer Made In Paris.

The new sound of Double J’s J Files will be brought to you by Art vs Science, while Double J’s Artist in Residence theme music will be made by Beatrice Lewis (Haiku Hands, Kardajala Kirridarra).

Meanwhile Double J has teamed up on theme music with indie three-piece MOD CON for Curated; coastal folk artist Bobby Alu for Stir It Up; alt-country artist Charlie Collins for Tower of Song and roots/hip-hop trio True Vibenation for Double J’s Weekends.

Our friends at ABC Country have also commissioned new theme music for Saturday Night Country, made by Golden Guitar award winner Stuart French and his Australia-via-Nashville family. While ABC RN’s The Music Show will have theirs newly crafted by music producer Paul Mac and Australian composer Alice Chance.

Plus, Double J will be bringing you a new video series called ‘Home School of Rock’ featuring music tutorials with Olympia, Ngaiire, Benny Walker and L Fresh The Lion. Slated to launch in August, the series will include tutorials on everything from guitar and production to song and lyric writing!

This follows on from triple j Unearthed’s ‘Level Up’ COVID-19 initiative, which gave grants to 16 emerging Australian artists to help them record new music, produce music videos, create sustainable merch and much more.

Applications for ABC’s Fresh Start closed June 12.
