The Block Glasshouse wins night thanks to simulcast as One ties with ABC for share

The BlockThe Block was the highest rating program of Sunday night with a metro audience of 1.374m, however the result was boosted by the network’s decision to simulcast the renovation show across its multi-channel Go and Gem.

The decision to “roadblock” the program helped Nine ensure it won the 6.30pm slot against Seven’s X Factor which had an audience of 1.14m, but it should be noted that Oztam does not provide a channel by channel breakdown giving only on number for all three channels.

Ten Masterchef in the 7.30pm slot drew 1.261m ahead of tonight’s final, which will see Brent Owens and Laura Cassai face off for this year’s crown, acording to the OzTam Overnight Premliminary Metro Ratings

In the news stakes Nine News had 1.289m compared with 1.159m for Seven News. But it was the performance of The Block, along with a late 60 minutes, which was screened at 9pm and drew 985,000, and The Voice Kids which recovered somewhat from a weak mid week performance of 806,000 with 933,000 viewers all helped to give Nine the highest audience share of the night with 19.8 per cent on its main channel.

Meanwhile over on Ten Halle Berry drama Extant, which followed Masterchef at 9pm, and got 507,000 viewers down from last week’s 553,000, although it was one of the most time shifted shows picking up another 142,000 viewers.

Ten’s digital channel One enjoyed a strong night with 561,000 viewers for The Hungarian Grand Prix at 9.55pm, and 509,000 and 557,000 for the Commonwealth Games coverage from 6pm and  8.30pm giving it an audience share of 11.8 per cent, tying with ABC.. Seven had an audience share of 17.3 per cent for night on its main channel.

Over the weekend, Ten performed strongly with on the back of its Commonwealth Games Glasgow coverage pulling an audience share of 15.3 per cent on its main channel and 7.5 per cent on its multi-channel on Saturday.  The result meant Ten beat rival Nine who had 12.6 per cent while Seven won the night with 19.8 per cent.

In overall share on the main channels for last week Seven and Nine tied with 27.5 per cent, Ten lifted almost 10 points on the back of Masterchef and the Commonwealth Games to 23.3 per cent, the ABC had 15.8 per cent and SBS 5.9 per cent.
