Ugly wins first pitch, taking Uno Home Loans’ creative account

Ugly – the agency which was formed earlier this year by TBWA Sydney’s ex executive creative director Gary McCreadie, Anomaly Amsterdam’s founding partner and CEO Hazelle Klonhammer, and M&C Saatchi’s former head of strategy Ross Berthinussen – has won the creative duties for online mortgage broker unohomeloans.com.au.

McCreadie, Klonhammer and Berthinussen participated in their first pitch to win Uno

Uno’s agency of record this year has been Sydney’s Archibald Williams, which has launched campaigns targeting dishonest and secretive mortgage brokers, as well as big bank costs.

The win marks Ugly’s first win via a pitch process, with other clients including Google, News Corp and Rip Curl appointing the agency directly.

Kirsty Davison, chief marketing and strategy officer at Uno, said she was impressed with Ugly’s ability to solve “ugly problems” with creative.

Ugly’s appointment comes just as the government confirmed intermediaries, including mortgage brokers, will be included in the royal commission into Australia’s banking system.

Uno and Ugly will ‘shake up’ home loans in Australia

Davison continued: “We are confident Ugly is the agency to drive our brand forward and to cement Uno’s position as the leader in digital home loans in Australia. We are excited to be working with them.”

Klonhammer said: “It’s refreshing to work with such progressive clients who totally value creativity. Nothing is more gratifying than working with a new brand as it forges its future. uno is set to shake up the home loans market. Watch this space.”
