3m tune in for The Block’s finale
The Block’s finale may have been anticlimactic but it still pulled in more than 3m viewers for the winner announcement last night.
In what is likely to be Nine’s biggest night of the ratings year, the winner announcement averaged 3.089m, peaking at 3.428m, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.
The earlier finale night show for The Block rated 2.282m, while the auction rated 2.69m.
The debut of Underbelly Razor also performed strongly, with 2.51m for the first episode and 2.089m for the second.
In a dreadful night for Ten, the network did not get a single show into the top 15. It’s best performer was Bondi Rescue which rated just 496,000.
The Renovators rated a desperately low 407,000, 20th for the night.
It’s overall share was equal with ABC1’s with just 8.3%.
Seven’s best performer was Seven News with 1.387m.
The result for Nine, which saw three of the four houses fail to sell, led to a backlash from disappointed viewers on Twitter.
In a statement Nine Network MD Jeffrey Browne, said: “I am not surprised at the auction results given the recent decline in the Melbourne property market. But, these properties represent excellent value and I expect them all to be sold very soon. This is reality television at its most real.”
Nine’s metro share for the night was a whopping 42.2%.

Underbelly was pretty average. We turned over to Star Trek during the third ad break.

Why would anyone find it hard to believe that no-one wanted to purchase a house that was renovated by amatuers using the cheapest materials they can find. And with each mistake excruciatingly examined on national TV.
Seriously? Who would want to buy that house other than to get a bit of free publicity?

How exactly is The Bolt Rport going these days ? What is the trend of this fabulous program?

Block’s result was too close to the bone in this climate. Word is they’re going to repackage it as Cell Block, set in prison with real prisoners and the winner getting sent home.

We found ourselves flicking around channels while we endured the non-event of the Block last night and landed on Bondi rescue.
Did anyone else notice the uncensored nipple action when the boys rescued a drowning tourist midway through the program?
It was the highlight of the entire night!

If they say the property market has had a recent decline – it means the reserves were set to high!
Underbelly was great though

According to SMH, the block was originally purchased for $3.6m. That’s an average of 900K each. In this respect, the reserves weren’t too high at all. But they overpaid hugely for the property in the first place. I wonder if the original sellers slapped on a premium after the huge profits made last year? That’s unlikely to happen next series.

How much actual building/renovating was shown on in The Block?
From the few bits i saw I’d say about 5%. The rest seemed to be domestic arguments and competitions.
Give me fussy Kevin McCloud on Grand Designs any day.

Underbelly was great, thinks it’s going to be a better series than the last one. So sick of so-called reality TV, nothing ever really happens – maybe that’s reality these days.

I agree Tony, i too would personally rather watch GD, but from a ratings perspective doing reno’s in a reno show is really not the point. People don’t want to watch other people do reno’s… if they did, the Renovators would be doing 2 million not 400k which it did last night. People love the drama, good or bad – and that’s what the block delivered.

Okay I am a nine employee, that said what a huge night. The producers of the renovators must be gutted. An I say that not to gloat; honestly.
