AFL season opener airs to 522k metro viewers; Seven wins the night

The AFL season opener between Carlton Blues and Richmond Tigers brought in an entertainment win for Seven on Thursday night, drawing 522,000 metro viewers.

This year’s opening night viewership was slightly shy of the 548,000 metro viewers in 2022. However, it topped all three key advertising demos.

Seven’s The Chase Australia aired to 428,000 metro viewers, followed by Gogglebox on Ten with 395,000.

Thursday Night NRL on Nine attracted less attention compared to its football equivalent, with 349,000 metro viewers. Hot Seat on Nine brought in 331,000 metro viewers.

The #1 program on Thursday was Seven News with 773,000 metro viewers, closely followed by Seven News at 6:30 with 772,000, Nine News at 6:30 with 673,000 and Nine News with 668,000.

Seven network won the overall share with 34.7%, followed by Nine with 26.9%, Ten with 16.6% and ABC with 14.5%.

The top primary channel was Seven with 35% and the top multichannel was 7Mate with 4%.

In the latest Daily Consolidated 7 Total TV Report for 9 March, Seven News last Thursday was the #1 program nationally with 1.2 million Total TV viewers, including 32,000 on BVOD and an uplift of 3%.

The program with the biggest uplift of 126% was Vigil on SBS, with 258,000 total TV viewers and 63,000 on national BVOD.
