Atomic 212 names Damien O’Brien as Darwin general manager

Independent media agency Atomic 212 has named Damien O’Brien as its Darwin office’s general manager, effective immediately. He replaces Ben Carroll, who is leaving the company to “pursue other business interests”.

O’Brien joins the agency from Rifle, where he was group manager, strategic partnerships, and has previously held roles at QMS, Fairfax, Macquarie Radio Network and Diversified Communications. Diversified Communications bought Mumbrella in 2017.

In his role at Atomic 212’s Darwin office, which was established a year ago and oversees local clients including Northern Territory Government, Tourism Northern Territory, Charles Darwin University and Northern Territory Major Events Company, O’Brien will report to co-founder and partner James Dixon.

“In just 13 months, our Darwin office has attracted some great clients and produced some excellent and innovative work,” Dixon said.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Damien to the team, to continue our expansion in the Northern Territory. Damien is a wonderful fit strategically and culturally and will bring over a decade’s worth of experience in team management, sales, business strategy and business development to new role.

“In addition to running the Darwin office, Damien will work closely with our vast team in Sydney of 20 people who service our Northern Territory clients. That team includes our Head of Content and Creative Kellie Holt, who has a national role working across the Northern Territory Major Events Company; our General Manager of Media Technology, Tom Sheppard, who oversees performance across the Northern Territory Government and Charles Darwin University; and Ilona Evans, our Client Lead on Tourism Northern Territory.”

Dixon also took the opportunity to thank Carroll for his work in the role.

“I’d like to thank Ben for his great contribution in setting up and building our Darwin office. We wish him all the very best for the future,” he said.

O’Brien added that it’s an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“I’ve always had a passion for media, particularly developing strategy to drive practical, well-thought solutions across a variety of platforms,” he said.

“I’m greatly looking forward to making the agency move and continuing the great results achieved by Atomic 212° Darwin. It represents a fantastic opportunity to lead an extremely talented team up in Australia’s Top End.”

Earlier this week, Atomic 212 was appointed to the Greater Bank account.
