Casefile True Crime holds on to top spot, ARN/iHeartMedia top network in November Podcast Ranker
Audioboom’s Casefile True Crime has held onto its top spot in the November Podcast Ranker from Triton Digital, after knocking Hamish & Andy off the perch in October’s results.
The number one podcast had a total of 961,420 listeners across the month, with a total of five episodes published, while the LiSTNR duo closely followed with 902,481 from four episodes.
Spots three and four were also unchanged with Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne from ARN/iHeartMedia and The Update from Nova Entertainment. The latter has experienced a successful debut year, after being launched in January as a twice-daily offering, replacing the Nova National News Briefing.
Last month, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA’s) LiSTNR and, Schwartz Media agreed to a “strategic partnership” over the latter’s titles, 7am and The Culture, which will also see the two working on co-production opportunities to develop and publish new “journalist-led podcasts”.
True crime podcast, Shandee’s Story, debuted in the list at number 11 with 210,685 listens from 11 episodes, the highest debutant on the list. From publisher News Corp, the podcast hosted by Hedley Thomas (creator of The Teacher’s Pet), looks at the murder and cold case of Shandee Blackburn.
Another true crime podcast, My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, from Stitcher Media rose 30 places to 13.
ARN/iHeartMedia was again Australia’s top network with 3,191,970 monthly listeners and 13,822,671 downloads, followed by SCA’s LiSTNR with 2,827,203 listners and 9,211,431 downloads.
The top 10 publishers list was unchanged from October’s results.
It’s a Lot7AMARN’s head of digital audio, Corey Layton said: “It’s been an incredible year for ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network as we’ve experienced significant content and commercial growth. Achieving the position of Australia’s #1 Podcast Network for the 19th consecutive ranker is an outstanding achievement and is testament to the hard work of our amazing team and partners. Over the next year, we look forward to reaching even more Australians, whilst also delivering unique and innovative opportunities for our commercial partners across our platforms.”
In September, Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) changed how its Australian Podcast Ranker, compiled with Triton Digital, ranks podcasts, using listener numbers rather than download numbers as the key metric.
The Ranker includes participation of the following publishers and sales representation: Acast, ARN/iHeartPodcast Network Australia, Audioboom, DM Podcasts, Equity Mates Media, Hidden Brain Media, Kinderling Kids Radio, LiSTNR (SCA), Motorsport Podcast Network, News Corp Australia, Nine, Nova Entertainment, Podshape, Ranieri & Co, Schwartz Media, Sports Entertainment Network (SEN), Stitcher Media, The Chaser, TOFOP Productions, Wavelength Creative, West Australian Newspapers, Wondery.
