Co-production guidelines launched at MIPCOM

MIPCOM’s Spotlight on Australia will see the launch of Australia’s new co-production guidelines, delivered by the executive director of strategy and operations, Fiona Cameron, as well as the launch of a new broadcasting initiative from Tourism Australia.

Director Gregor Jordan will deliver the keynote address on October 5, launching  his transmedia project Smashcut – a co-production with The Project Factory.

At the opening, Gregor Jordan will be interviewed by his Project Factory co-producer Guy Gadney, discussing Smashcut.com – a platform that gives users access to raw footage of well-known bands and actors and allows them to create their own cuts using a streaming editing tool. Jordan described it as “YouTube but with an interactive element that takes it to a whole new level”.

This year will see more than 250 Australians attending MIPCOM, with a delegation that includes all the FTA broadcasters, Foxtel, ACTF, Southern Star, Beyond, Film Victoria, ScreenWest, Screen NSW and Screen Australia.

Spotlight on Australia will feature a series of case studies on cross-platform content and alternative revenue streams. It will be moderated by Marcus Gillezeau and feature speakers such as Mike Conway (managing director, The Wiggles), Ross Crowley (director of programming for Foxtel), Jarod Green (creator of Beached Az and director of Radical Love), Nathan Mayfield (CEO Hoodlum) and Rory Callaghan (managing director for Southern Star Entertainment).

Other speakers include FremantleMedia Australia CEO, Ian Hogg,  IPTV innovators Andrew Lambert (general manager for content acquisition and strategic partnerships at Telstra) and Lauren McLaughlin (director of content and interactive partnerships for FetchTV).

MIPCOM will also see the official 20th anniversary celebration of The Wiggles, and the 21st anniversary of Melbourne’s Visual Entertainment Group.

Networking events will include an “Australia Lunch” (CBeach, Cannes), followed by a workshop and matchmaking event that will allow participants to meet key players of the Australian industry. MIPCOM Producers’ Cocktail will be sponsored by Screen Australia, Circe Films, Iliad and Chef’s Ink, and will take place with the presence of Australian chefs and wines on Tuesday evening (Vega Luna Beach Restaurant).
