Glee picks up
Ten’s dark musical drama Glee failed to beat the million mark in the first proper episode of the series on Thursday night.
However, its audience was up significantly on last week’s repeat of the pilot, and the network argues that it did well in younger demographics.
Last night saw Glee reach an average audience of 967,000, according to preliminary ratings from OzTam. But it reached 44.9% of the 16-39 audience.
Meanwhile, Thursday’s schedule continued to be one of Seven’s poorest of the week, leaving Nine with an easy win for the night.
Thursday night’s share:
- Nine: 33.7
- Seven: 24.3
- Ten: 20.1
- ABC1: 13.2
- SBS1 4.2
- ONE: 1.5
- ABC2: 1.4
- GO!: 1.2
- SBS2: 0.5
Thursday’s top TV shows:
- Seven News Seven 1.3m
- Today Tonight Seven 1.3m
- The Footy Show Nine 1.2m
- Getaway Nine 1.2m
- Home and Away Seven 1.2m
- Two and a Half Men Nine 1.1m
- A Current Affair Nine 1m
- Nine News Nine 1m
- Rush Ten 1m
- Glee Ten 0.967m
When the top show of the night is only getting 1.3m the result for Glee is a good one – can’t imagine any of the 55+ audience tuned in, like they do for shows further up the list
Think Ten should run a double episode or two episodes of Glee next week so they are only days behind the U.S, not a couple of weeks. So many people boasting about downloading the episodes from the US because they don’t want to wait that long

Glee is very funny. I recommend it.

I think it’s a little bit too quirky for a mainstream audience. People were probably expecting it to be a bit more High School Musical.
It’s a quality show though.
