GPY&R Cadbury’s Favourites campaign introduces new line ‘What to bring when you’re told not to bring a thing’
A new ad by GPY&R Melbourne for Cadbury’s Favourites sees the chocolate snack promoted as the ideal gift when told not to bring anything
The campaign – “What to bring when you’re told not to bring a thing'” – went to air on Sunday night. It features a couple going through a fantasy sequence on what gift to bring to a barbie.
GPY&R’s creative director Jim Ingram said: “We’re excited about this campaign because it’s born from a good old fashioned advertising line. We found a real product truth and linked it to a genuine human insight – a simple principal really. It’s how they used to do it back in the 80s and when it works, it works a treat. And if research groups are anything to go by, you know you’re onto a winner when they’re dominated by groups of women sitting around saying to each other ‘Oh my God, I totally do that!’.”
Carla Filia, senior brand manager for everyday gifting at Kraft Foods, said: “We can all relate to the anguish of being told not to bring a thing to a social get-together when of course, we all know that ‘don’t bring a thing’ really means, ‘don’t show up empty-handed’.”

I live in a completely different world where what people say is what they mean. However I do like getting given chocolate. So I usually say “bring me some cadbury bit$h”

Calm down people, this gets a pass mark, but it’s not brilliant.
(Adults bring booze when told not to bring anything.)

Isn’t that the point Anonymous – an ad like this says there’s an alternative to taking booze. I reckon it’s great…everyone has been in this situation. The only thing I don’t like is that there’s something weird going on with the “dad” and “mum”. They don’t look like a couple at all – it’s more like a mum and her two kids (one just a bit overgrown).

now who really will do that, they will feel they are just copying the advert and perhaps to not be cliched bring a competitor product

Superb strategy.
Only an idiot would fail to see that.

Really, really well done folks. Great casting too. Should send it to the people who make those Fererro Rocher ad thingys. That’ll learn ’em.

This is a demand driver brief and the spot delivers a treat against that – classic stuff.

simple and effective. And it’s pretty much what we do when going to a friends place now, when they say exactly that, so they know their market well.

I freakin’ love this campaign…. the team behind it (client and agency) need a big pat on the back.
