Gruen’s return a ratings winner for the ABC

GruenThe return of panel show Gruen was a ratings winner for the ABC last night, with the show grabbing 974,000 metro viewers to be the most-watched non-news show of the evening.

Easily winning its 8.30pm timeslot, the show which returned after a two-year hiatus out-rated Nine’s David Attenborough’s Life Story (472,000) and Seven’s World’s Most Extreme (496,000) and Ten’s Madam Secretary (428,000).

Hosted by Wil Anderson, who is flanked by former ad men Russel Howcroft and Todd Sampson, the show was the third most-watched show amongst viewers aged 16-39 and 18-49 and the second most watched show amongst viewers aged 25-54.

Gruen’s last outing on air, when it was called Gruen Planet, saw the show’s finale watched by 1.004m. It launched with a metro audience of 1.138m viewers.

It helped the ABC claim an audience share of 16 per cent however Seven won the night with a share of 17.3 per cent, just ahead of Nine’s share of 17.1 per cent. Ten settled for fourth place with a share of 14.9 per cent.

In the 7.30pm timeslot, Ten’s dating contest The Bachelor grabbed 920,000 metro viewers, down on last week’s audience of 984,000. It was the most-watched show across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

It out-rated Seven’s Border Security – Australia’s Front Line which pulled in 799,000 metro viewers at 7.30pm, while The Force – Behind the Line, airing at 8pm, was watched by 823,000.

Both Border Security and The Bachelor beat Nine’s The Block which grabbed 748,000 metro viewers.

In news, Seven News at 6pm was watched by 1.005m metro viewers, with it dipping to 960,000 from 6.30pm. Nine News at 6pm was watched by 993,000, sliding to 984,000 at 6.30pm.
