Grattan calls it. It’s PM Abbott
The 2013 federal election might still probably be three months away but political journalist Michelle Grattan, who now writes for The Comnversation, appears to have made the call.
A book cover leaked to Dr Mumbo for the new edition of her book Australian Prime Ministers, to be released in December, doesn’t leave much doubt about who will win.
New Holland Publishers tells Dr Mumbo that the cover, featuring opposition leader Tony Abbott, is authentic but said it was one of a number of options prepared.

Incredibly badly intruded Abbott. Somebody did a major cut-paste fail taking a low-res image and blowing it up.
I suspect whoever is mocking up covers for New Holland is having a rise. You make sixteen drafts knowing some won’t survive, and somebody thought they’d have some fun.
Menzies, Fraser and Abbott. It’s clear which camp the designer’s in too….
At one time I had a lot of respect for Ms Grattan, but this declined immediately upon her assessment of the PM’s ‘misogyny’ speech and has reduced a bit since then. The cover does say it all, to some extent – and it a reason not to buy this book!
WIth the exception of Menzies (due only to his historical popularity), why the pics of those other PMs? Surely there are others who have actually done something heroic or are of more note. In Abbott’s case, it would be more relevant in a few years – with a Rogue’s Gallery of PMs (should this horror ever eventuate).
I used to work in publishing. It is highly likely that a cover has been mocked up with Julia Gillard on it too. These covers are merely created to sell the books in to bookshops and the cycle for sale is about 6 months.
I think there is a story about how Michele Grattan is marketed. She’s obviouisly a brand, she’s even an ABC brand, and now on ‘the conversation’. And she is almost ferally anti-julia. Usually, senior political commentators either declare their bias or try to hide it, but Grattan is right out there. She is a glued on hater.
Why? Who is paying the bills?
