Nine’s director of commercial partnerships and affiliates Ian Paterson to exit business

Nine’s director of commercial partnerships and affiliates and the brains behind Your Money, Ian Paterson, will depart after 20 years.

Paterson, who was Melbourne’s managing director for six years, had been instrumental in the expansion of regional news and the launch of Australian News Channel and Nine joint venture, Your Money.

Paterson will leave the business in mid November

Paterson started out at Nine in the sales department before switching to rival Seven. He then left television to take on a sports marketing role with AFL talent management group Flying Start, before returning to Nine in 2004.

Once back at the network he was charged with sales development and marketing for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. In 2010 he was promoted to sales director for the network. In 2011 he became the boss of GTV9 in Melbourne.

In his most recent role, Paterson was responsible for driving the performance of Nine’s partnership with Southern Cross Austereo, and increasing the company’s commercial revenues through new business partnerships.

Nine CEO Hugh Marks sent an internal note to staff yesterday, thanking Paterson for his dedication to the business and his involvement in Melbourne, regional and with the launch of Your Money.

“Our best wishes go with him on his next adventure,” Marks said.

Paterson wished Marks and the executive management team and Nine family “continued success”.

“Few get the opportunity I’ve had to be part of such a dynamic and forward thinking business driven culturally by an incredible team of hard working and passionate people,” Paterson said.

“I’m privileged to have  served Nine in a range of leadership positions transcending the many departmental interests of this great company.
