Nunn Media wins Bendigo Bank’s media account

Independent media agency Nunn Media has won Bendigo Bank’s media account, worth around $8m, Mumbrella can reveal.

The win follows a pitch held by the bank. Bendigo formerly handled the majority of its media in house, Mumbrella understands, although it has previously worked with Dentsu Aegis Network.

Six months ago, Bendigo Bank underwent a rebrand to target its services towards a younger demographic. The bank’s executive for partnerships, marketing and corporate affairs, Alexandra Gartmann, said the new logo and tone of voice was a response to market sentiment.

“Because of the sentiment in the market and also some of our uplift in performance recently with really great numbers of new and younger customers coming to the bank, we decided it was a great time as part of our strategy to really tell our story in a different way,” she said at the time.

“This is enabling us to modernise or refresh, bring a new element of professionalism and capability to our brand that is already really well known for being deeply connected with community and having a very strong element of care.”

The bank worked with AJF GrowthOps on the rebrand.

Sarah Bateson, Bendigo Bank general manager of marketing said: “Our partnership with Nunn Media is in step with our strategy to increase our capability and effectively tell our story, at the same time adding further scale to our team as we strive towards our vision to be Australia’s bank of choice.”

Nunn Media founder and CEO, Matthew Nunn added: “As Australia’s largest independent media agency we are delighted to have been appointed to partner with such a trusted Australian brand. We share similar values and culture and look forward to helping Bendigo Bank reach its ambition of becoming Australia’s bank of choice by providing our strategic guidance and digital expertise.”

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is Australia’s fifth-largest retail bank. The bank has been on a targeted transformation since last year to increase its offering for consumers and broaden its reach. It reports 1.88m customers and a 32.1 net promoter score.

Mumbrella approached Dentsu for comment.

Earlier this year, Nunn Media appointed Affinity’s senior strategist and brand director, Giorgia Butler, as head of strategy and innovation for its Sydney office. Nunn is the largest independent media agency in the country, with a headcount of more than 90.
